Anna Sigríður Þorvaldsdóttir, known as Anna Thorvaldsdottir, is a prominent Icelandic composer born on 11 July 1977. Celebrated internationally and the winner of the 2012 Nordic Council Music Prize, her compositions are often inspired by nature and landscapes. Thorvaldsdottir started young as a cellist and commenced composing early in life. She holds a BA in Composition from the Iceland Academy of the Arts and furthered her studies at the University of California, San Diego, earning both an MA and a PhD. Her works have been commissioned by prestigious orchestras worldwide and appreciated in major venues and festivals. Alongside her successful composing career, Thorvaldsdottir imparts her expertise through lectures at revered institutions. She presently serves as the composer-in-residence for the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and resides in Surrey, UK.
