Unsuk Chin is a South Korean composer of contemporary classical music, based in Berlin, Germany. A self-taught pianist and graduate of Seoul National University, she furthered her studies with György Ligeti in Hamburg. Recipient of the 2004 Grawemeyer Award, 2010 Prince Pierre Foundation Prize, and the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize in 2024, her works demonstrate a rich blend of Western and Eastern influences, transcending cultural boundaries. Chin's notable commissions include those from the Ensemble Intercontemporain and collaborations with Kent Nagano, as well as her tenure as composer-in-residence at the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, where she oversaw the Ars Nova Series and became its artistic adviser.
