Dame Judith Weir DBE HonFRSE, born on 11 May 1954, is a British composer who became the Master of the King's Music in 2014, appointed by Queen Elizabeth II, the first woman to hold this office. Born in Cambridge, England, Weir studied under John Tavener and subsequently with Robin Holloway at King's College, Cambridge. She has an international reputation for her orchestral and chamber works and is notably recognized for her operas and theatrical works, drawing inspiration from medieval history and Scottish traditions.
