Simon Holt is an English composer, born on 21 February 1958 in Bolton, Lancashire. He studied with Anthony Gilbert at the Royal Northern College of Music, earning a diploma in composition. Noted for a series of commissions and collaborations, his works include 'eco-pavan,' 'Sparrow Night,' and 'Lilith.' Influenced by Messiaen, Xenakis, and Feldman, as well as visual artists like Goya, Giacometti, and Brâncuși, Holt's music is dramatic and impulsive. His oeuvre consists of chamber, orchestral, opera, and piano music. Holt has been a Composer in Association with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and is a Professor of Composition at the Royal College of Music.
