Wonderfully evocative and memorable” (West Sussex County Gazette); “easily appealing, yet musically reputable” (Musical Times) and “creatively brilliant” (4barsrest.com). ​​ Liz’s compositions have been widely played throughout the UK and abroad by performers including the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera, Bournemouth Symphony Chorus, Carducci Quartet, Foden's Band, Symphonic Brass of the RAF, Andrew Kennedy, Marlene Ford (USA), Eastern Virginia Brass (USA), Norfolk Chamber Consort (USA), San Domenico Virtuoso Program Orchestra (USA) and the Almost Orthogonal Quartet (Israel), and at venues including Wales Millennium Centre, Royal Albert Hall, Fairfield Halls Croydon, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Peacock Theatre London and Barcelona Cathedral. Her music has been broadcast on BBC1, ITV and Radio 3, and her many diverse commissions to date have ranged from a fanfare based on bugle calls from the American Civil War premiered in Virginia, USA; a 40th wedding anniversary song cycle, recorded and performed at a surprise party and a full length ballet for the London Children’s Ballet. Recent commissions and premieres include Spirit of Africa for the Cheltenham Festival; Old Stones Remember, a cross-artform outreach project for the Presteigne Festival; The Story of St Alban, a 45 minute oratorio for St Alban’s Choral Society; Silver Rose, commissioned by Bristol City Council to commemorate World War 1 featuring narrator Robert Hardy CBE at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery; Dance where the Spirit Enlightens to mark the 70th anniversary of Arts Council England and Innovation 216, celebrating Bristol's aviation history, performed by massed bands and choirs of 170 aged 8-80 at St George's Bristol. Liz started composing at an early age and received widespread media coverage as a child composer, including an ITV television documentary And I Write Music and a televised performance by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. She graduated from Cardiff University and subsequently achieved a postgraduate diploma from the Royal College of Music; since then she has pursued a diverse musical career as a composer, performer and educator. Liz was awarded a PhD in Composition from Cardiff University in March 2010 where she was also an Associate Lecturer for nine years. She worked extensively with the late composer and explorer David Fanshawe; published collaborations include orchestral and brass band arrangements of The Lord's Prayer from ‘African Sanctus’, including performances by Orchestra of Opera North, Northern Sinfonia and Black Dyke Band; Pacific Song, performed at the Miami Convention Center and English Suite, premiered by the Southbank Sinfonia at the Royal Festival Hall. She has given lectures about her work to Wells Evening Society (2010 and 2015) and Vaga Probus (2016), and will give a talk to Hereford Music Circle in 2017. In May 2013, Liz was appointed Senior Lecturer in Composition and Performance (part-time) at the University of the West of England and was awarded a Faculty of Environment and Technology Public Engagement and Outreach Award in 2015, enabling her to work further with OpenUp Music, with whom she is now Composer in Association; she was recently given a UWE Computer Science and Creative Technologies Researcher of the Year Award. Liz is also an Associate Lecturer for the Open University and Cardiff University Centre Continuing and Professional Education, and became Composer-in-Residence with Lydbrook Band in 2015. She was composer and project manager for Sinfonia Cymru's Boats, Tunnels and Bridges arts education project in 2016. Current and future projects include a song cycle for Danish ensemble Corde di Gioia, a solo trombone piece for the new Brett Baker Trombone Collection Volume 4, a new work for the Open University Choir to celebrate Milton Keynes' 50th anniversary and a large-scale festival venture for Bhangra, brass and soprano.
