Lew Brown, born Louis Brownstein on December 10, 1893, was a prominent lyricist in the United States, well-known for his contributions during World War I and the Roaring Twenties. He collaborated with top Tin Pan Alley composers, such as Albert Von Tilzer, and was part of a successful songwriting trio with Buddy DeSylva and Ray Henderson from 1925 to 1931. Brown's notable works include 'Button Up Your Overcoat' and 'The Birth of the Blues.' His career extended to Broadway shows and Hollywood films, earning him a place in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
