Jule Styne, born Julius Kerwin Stein on December 31, 1905 in London, England, was a prolific English-American songwriter and composer noted for his Broadway musicals. Some of his most successful works took to the stage and screen, including 'Gypsy', 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes', and 'Funny Girl'. Starting his life in a Jewish family with Ukrainian roots, Styne moved to Chicago at age eight and showcased early musical talent. He contributed to the entertainment industry extensively, with his career lasting several decades and spanning over 1,500 published songs.
