More about Johann Strauss I
Johann Baptist Strauss I, also known as Johann Strauss Sr., the Elder, or the Father, was an Austrian composer of the Romantic Period, famous for his light music including waltzes, polkas, and galops. Born in Leopoldstadt, now Vienna, he established the foundations for his sons—Johann, Josef, and Eduard—to continue his musical dynasty. Best known for the Radetzky March, he contributed greatly to the popularization of dance music. His career included numerous tours, and he was honored by Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria. He married Maria Anna Streim and had a challenging family life, which involved a significant rivalry with his son Johann Strauss II.
