Iannis Xenakis was a Romanian-born Greek-French avant-garde composer, music theorist, architect, performance director, and engineer. His groundbreaking compositions integrated mathematical models with architecture, leading to significant developments in electronic and computer music. Xenakis was also known for his polytopes, multimedia performances that synthesized his diverse talents and interests. Born in Romania to Greek parents, his life was marked by the early loss of his mother and the traumatic experiences of the Greek Civil War, which left him scarred and blind in one eye. After fleeing to Paris for safety, he became a naturalized French citizen and worked with the famed architect Le Corbusier, influencing his approach to music. Xenakis's theoretical writings, especially 'Formalized Music: Thought and Mathematics in Composition', had a profound impact on contemporary music theory and composition【23†source】【30†source】.
