More about Geoffrey Bush
Geoffrey Bush (23 March 1920 – 24 February 1998) was a British composer, teacher, and music scholar. Without formal training in composition, he was prolific across various genres, edited works of other composers and authored several books. Bush's life intertwined with music from his early piano lessons, chorister duties at Salisbury Cathedral, to his deep involvement with traditional English church music. His music career was molded by his meetings with John Ireland, leading to prolific composing even during his conscientious objector service in WWII. Post-war, Bush's teaching career soared as he educated and guided students at Oxford and London Universities while composing and serving in various musical public bodies.
