More about Ernest John Moeran
Ernest John Smeed Moeran was an English composer influenced by English and Irish folk music, actively collecting and integrating them into his work. His prolific output encompassed orchestral, chamber, and keyboard works, alongside choral and song cycles. Born to a clergyman, Moeran pursued music at the Royal College and was wounded in WWI. Post-war, he studied under John Ireland and gained acclaim for his compositions. Despite struggles with alcoholism and a turbulent life shared with composer Peter Warlock, he regained prominence in the 1930s. Married briefly to cellist Peers Coetmore, his final years were solitary; he died in 1950 in Kenmare after a cerebral haemorrhage【27†source】.
