David Lang is an American composer known for his contemporary classical music. He is a part of the Bang on a Can collective, which he co-founded along with composers Michael Gordon and Julia Wolfe. His style is noted for minimalism and often explores themes of modern life. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2008 for his piece 'The Little Match Girl Passion', which is based on the Hans Christian Andersen story and influenced by Johann Sebastian Bach's St. Matthew Passion.
