Bertold Hummel was a German composer of modern classical music, born on 27 November 1925 in Hüfingen, Baden. He trained at the Academy of Music in Freiburg, honing his skills in composition and cello. His career saw him take on roles as a cellist, composer, choirmaster, and broadcaster before settling into academia where he taught composition and directed the Studio for New Music at Würzburg for 25 years. Hummel was a respected professor and president of the Würzburg College of Music, also holding memberships with esteemed artistic bodies. His influence as a composer was recognized internationally, and he continued to be active in the music scene until his death on 9 August 2002 in Würzburg.
