Barbara York

Canadian-American composer and lyricist Barbara York was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and dedicated her life to music from a young age. At 4 ½, she began piano lessons and composed from age 7. A McGill University graduate, York's early career featured theatre work in Toronto with notable artists. Her focus shifted to collaborative piano and composition, specifically for tuba and euphonium after moving to Kansas City in 1993. Her significant contributions to brass music included over 40 works, earning her a Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Tuba Euphonium Association posthumously in 2021.
