More about Arthur Sullivan
Sir Arthur Seymour Sullivan MVO (13 May 1842 – 22 November 1900) was a pre-eminent English composer celebrated for his operatic collaborations with librettist W. S. Gilbert, comprising 14 comic operas, among them 'H.M.S. Pinafore,' 'The Pirates of Penzance,' and 'The Mikado.' His extensive oeuvre includes 24 operas, major orchestral works, choral arrangements, ballets, and numerous hymns and songs like 'Onward, Christian Soldiers.' Born into a musical family, he composed from an early age, later studying at the Royal Academy of Music and Leipzig Conservatoire in Germany. His works, such as 'Cox and Box' and 'Ivanhoe,' along with his conducting and teaching, secured his legacy as a pillar of Britain's musical heritage.
