Arlene Sierra is an American composer of contemporary classical music, working in London, United Kingdom. Educated at Oberlin, Yale, and the University of Michigan, she received a DMA in 1999. Sierra's music has been commissioned by organizations including the Seattle Symphony and the New York Philharmonic. She was the first woman to win the Takemitsu Prize in 2001, and in 2007, received a Charles Ives Fellowship. Her CDs have garnered critical acclaim, including Latin Grammy nomination for 'Moler'. Currently, she is Professor of Composition at Cardiff University School of Music.
