Antonio Lotti (5 January 1667 – 5 January 1740) was an Italian composer of the Baroque era who made significant contributions to vocal music. Oral tradition suggests that he studied with prominent musicians at St Mark's Basilica in Venice early in his life. Lotti spent his career at St Mark's, initially as a high-voiced male singer, then working his way up to maestro di cappella. His compositions include masses, cantatas, madrigals, operas, and instrumental music. His innovative music often included a transition to the gallant style, paving the way from the Baroque to the Classical period. Esteemed figures like J.S. Bach, Handel, and Zelenka admired his work.
