More about Alan Bullard
Alan Bullard was born on 4 August 1947 in Norwood, South London, the son of artists Paul and Jeanne Bullard. He grew up in Blackheath and studied at St. Olave's Grammar School and the Royal College of Music, where he was tutored by prominent figures such as Herbert Howells. Bullard has a strong connection with educational music, contributing to instrumental collections and authoring sight-reading series 'Joining the Dots'. His choral works have garnered global attention, featured on CDs, and his musical identity reflects influences from Britten and Howells. Bullard enjoys composing music that challenges performers without being prohibitive, aiming to write pieces that are both enjoyable to play and to listen to. He resides in Essex and Suffolk with his wife Janet, a fellow music educator, and they have two children and grandchildren.
