Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni was an Italian composer of the Baroque era. Notable for his operas, concertos, sonatas, sinfonias, and solo cantatas. He gained fame as an opera composer yet is known today for instrumental pieces, particularly his concertos. Albinoni's most familiar piece is the 'Adagio in G minor', later embellished by Remo Giazotto. Born to a wealthy Venetian merchant, he was a self-sustained musician who never sought church or noble patronage, unique for his time. He contributed significantly to the development of instrumental music, especially through his oboe concerti. Albinoni's music also influenced Johann Sebastian Bach.
