Marco Stroppa, born on 8 December 1959 in Verona, Italy, is a renowned composer known for his work in computer music and compositions for instruments with live electronics. He has an extensive educational background, having studied piano, composition, choral direction, and electronic music at the conservatoires in Verona, Milan, and Venice. Prior to his leading role at the IRCAM's department for musical research in Paris from 1987 to 1990, Stroppa collaborated with the University of Padua's Centro di Sonologia Computazionale and furthered his studies at MIT with support from the Fulbright Foundation. He is also the founder of the composition and computer music course at the International Bartók Festival in Hungary. Stroppa has held teaching positions in Lyon and Paris and is currently a professor of composition at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart since 1999, where he followed Helmut Lachenmann.
