Henry Smart

Henry Thomas Smart, born on 26 October 1813, was an English organist and composer, renowned for his contributions to church music and hymnody. A native of London, he hailed from a musical family and pursued his passion for music over a career in law. His hymns, particularly 'Regent Square', remain celebrated, although much of his work is no longer widely known. Later in life, Smart, despite being practically blind, continued composing melodious and effective organ pieces. Smart passed away on 6 July 1879 in London.
