More about Éric Montalbetti
If Eric Montalbetti long kept his music secret, he now enjoys that his scores are coming to life and can reach audiences thanks to wonderful performers. In 2018, François-Frédéric Guy first performed in concert 3 studies after Kandinsky for piano in the Amsterdam Muziekgebouw ; Henri Demarquette premiered Psalterium for cello & choir with Sequenza 9.3 & Catherine Simonpietri, and Eclair physionomique, a large symphonic fantasy after Paul Klee commissioned by the festival Printemps des Arts in Monte Carlo, has been premiered by the Monte Carlo Philharmonic orchestra & Kazuki Yamada. In the same year, Pierre Bleuse also conducted in Toulouse Vaste champ temporel à vivre joyeusement, a piece first performed in 2015 by Pascal Rophé on an 8 concerts tour with Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, as well as in Japan by the Tokyo Sinfonietta & Yasuaki Itakura. 2019 is the year of 4 new premieres : the Concerto « Memento Vivere » for flutist Emmanuel Pahud, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande & Jonathan Nott, a String Quartet for Les Dissonances, Hommage à Matisse for clarinet & female voice on the occasion of the painter’s 150th anniversary with Delphine Haidan & Pierre Génisson, and a Duo for violin & piano composed on Christian Tetzlaff and Lars Vogt’s invitation as composer in residence at their Spannungen festival in Germany. Eric Montalbetti started composition at the age of 11, while studying piano and organ. As a teenager and student, he followed the courses by Pierre Boulez, Robert Piencikowski and Andrew Gerszo at Ircam and Collège de France, and studied with composers Alain Bancquart, George Benjamin, Michael Levinas, Magnus Lindberg, Philippe Manoury, Paul Méfano and Tristan Murail. From 1996 to 2014, he was the Artistic director of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. During this time, he chose to keep his music secret, composing for himself like a personal diary, including many works for varied solo instruments, chamber, choral and orchestral music. Since 2015, Eric’s music is published by Durand (Universal Music Publishing Classical). Editions Allegretto have also published a few former scores, now made available on BabelScores, and a first CD album featuring soloists Nicolas Baldeyrou, Jean-Louis Capezzali, Marc Coppey, David Guerrier, François-Frédéric Guy and Tedi Papavrami has been released on Alpha Classics (Outhere Music).
