Marvin Gaye, born Marvin Pentz Gay Jr., was an influential American singer and songwriter central to the Motown sound in the 1960s, with hits like 'Ain't That Peculiar' and 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine.' He recorded significant duets and solo albums, including 'What's Going On' and 'Let's Get It On'. His work led to developments in R&B, particularly quiet storm and neo soul. His final years were marked by the Grammy-winning song 'Sexual Healing', and on April 1, 1984, he was tragically killed by his father.
