Nico Muhly is an American contemporary classical music composer and arranger. Born in Vermont to artist Bunny Harvey and filmmaker Frank Muhly, he was raised in Providence, Rhode Island. Muhly showed an early interest in music, singing in a choir and studying piano. He attended Columbia University and the Juilliard School, graduating with a BA in English and a Master's degree in music. He worked extensively with Philip Glass and collaborated with artists like Björk and Sufjan Stevens. His compositions have been commissioned by major institutions like the Metropolitan Opera.
