Colin I. Nossek (b. 1999) is a composer and clarinetist dedicated to the creation of new, imaginative works that are accessible to a wide audience. He is currently studying at the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music under Dr. Yuanyuan HE (composition) and Dr. Jackie Glazier (clarinet). Nossek’s style is equally influenced by the classical tradition as well as bluegrass and folk music, which he was raised around for much of his early childhood. In his music, he enjoys exploring modern tonalities and techniques while incorporating triadic and diatonic material. He has received commissions from the zooDuo, flautist Davíd Ramirez, and contrabassoonist Susan Nigro. In March 2019, Nossek’s saxophone duet Mirror Images was featured at the NASA Region 2 Conference in Tucson. Nossek is a proponent of new music, especially by traditionally overlooked composers. As a performer, he is always looking to premiere new works by fellow composers. Nossek has participated in the Arizona Symphony Orchestra, UA Wind Ensemble, Vulpes Wind Quintet, Avian Trio, and Biquadrate Clarinet Quartet. He specializes in clarinet and bass clarinet, and has performed in the Fred Fox Music+ Festival and at CBDNA at Sonoma State University. When he is not writing music or playing clarinet, Nossek is likely watching a movie at his local arthouse theater, the Loft Cinema.
