Marta Ptaszyńska, born on 29 July 1943 in Warsaw, Poland, is a distinguished Polish composer, percussionist, and professor. Noted as one of Poland's best-known female composers and a virtuoso percussionist with a specialization in contemporary music, she has made significant contributions to the academic and musical world. Her exemplary work has earned her numerous prestigious awards, such as the Simon J. Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship and the Officer Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland. She has been a Professor of Music at the University of Chicago since 1998 and holds the Helen B. & Frank L. Sulzberger Professor in Composition chair since 2005.
