Tristan Murail, born on 11 March 1947 in Le Havre, France, is renowned for his work with the spectral technique of composition. This approach is grounded in the fundamental properties of sound for harmony and employs spectral analysis, FM, RM, and AM synthesis for polyphony. Murail's education at the Paris Conservatory under Olivier Messiaen and his subsequent teaching roles at IRCAM and Columbia University have significantly contributed to his influential career. His notable works include 'Gondwana', 'Time and Again', and 'Serendib'. Murail's achievements are accentuated by awards such as the Prix de Rome in 1971.
